Whitespace characters in object names

I often use SmartConsole Demo Mode as a reference guide to showcase vendor best practices and recommendations.
I discovered in SmartConsole R82 & R82.10 Demo Mode that many object names contain whitespace characters.
Is this officially supported now? Regarding sk40179, sk182523 it's not.

Hey Danny,

I also noticed the same in R82.10 demo smart console.

Best,

This was doable in R81.x as well, probably R80.x.  Given that the objects are now really just a UUID in the database, the "name" is somewhat irrelevant.  (key word: "somewhat").

@Duane_Toler: Just because it's doable doesn't mean it's supported. sk40179 describes it as an illegal character that is forbidden to use.

Yep, good point.  However, I have lots of objects in R81.20 and beyond (and I'm almost certain it was allowed in R80.20) with objects containing spaces.   "So far" no issues.  🤞 (yeah i know... more famous last words, right?)  Now just watch.. as soon as I wrote that, I'll have a customer cough up some FWK worker thread crash because of an object with a space. 😁

Objects I am not sure, but rules with whitespace in for example rule name shows up as an error in cpm doctor.

Hi @Danny .

I don't know if there is a comprehensive documentation about this, but I know that some types of objects still have this restriction, and some don't.

An object name can include white spaces in the middle, but not at the beginning or the end.

sk153833 - "The object name must not contain whitespace characters at the beginning or the end" mess...

@tankp : This sk is regarding a rule's name or comment, not regarding object's names.
