Hey boys and girls,
Figured would share an interesting experience I had with customer for mgmt server in Azure. Long story short(er), there was an issue where we added new HDD in Azure portal, worked fine, but then would not let us extend /var/log in maintenance mode through lvm_manager, so we detached both added drives, but appears when we did so, it caused server not to recognize dafault hdd and boot from it, so we were "doomed". Though we did have backup generated prior to doing all this, restore in Azure portal did not work.
We decided to blow away existing mgmt, create new one using same settings, R81.20 image and though we were totally unsure if restore would work, as TAC told us it was not supported in Azure for this, we went for it anyway, restored fine and to our surprise, all mgmt rules were there in smart console.
Another HAPPY CUSTOMER 🙂
We just had to run this command from expert in order to circumvent jumbo take check -> dbset backup:override_hfs t
I honestly had no idea backup would work for this on brand new server, but so glad it did!
Happy Txgiving to our USA colleagues, dont stuff too much turkey, hehe.
Best,
Andy
