Timezone Changes

Hello,

A number of provinces in Canada have decided to not do daylight time changes. For example here in Alberta we no longer will follow daylight savings time. Just curious if anyone knows how Check Point will deal with this? If you have the timezone set for Mountain (GMT -7) will the FW change the time (there is no setting for Daylight changes). If you have NTP set will it take whatever the NTP server time is (Is there a difference between internal NTP or using Check Point NTP)? I would assume that Check Point will have to add new Timezones to address this. We also have reached out to our CP SE's for an update on this. Thanks

Strictly, Alberta is no longer using Standard time. It'll be on DST year-round.

You could set to an "Etc / GMT" offset "time zone". The only point of the named regional time zones is to follow that region's political changes to time, such as DST changes and date changes (Samoa and Tokelau skipped 2011-12-31 to move from one side of the international date line to the other side to simplify trade with nearby states). When you know you no longer need to do that, it's easier to just use the offset directly. Looks like the right one for Alberta is GMT-6.

I personally just set everything to UTC (which Gaia calls "Etc / GMT" and ignore DST entirely.
