How to control log files growth

Recently some space problem on a server had me looking into the C:\Windows\Internet Logs folder and the tvdebug.log files inside it.

I have some very large files (a tvDebug_2020-06-22-21-33-36.log with 1.5 GB is the largest, but most others are close to 1 GB)

These file start when I installed Endpoint Security on the server and seem to be "archived" with a timestamp when the server is rebooted.

I have two questions:

  • Is there a way to manage/limit the size of these files?
  • Is it safe to delete the older files (not the current tvdebug.log)?

More generally, I would be grateful for any hints about how to control the disk space used on the client by Endpoint Security.

Thanks in advance

Why was tvdebug enabled at all ? According to sk31665: How to enable tvdebug? , this is only enabled during debug...

Seems you run a legacy deployment ?

Deployment is from the end of 2019, and we still are on version 82.10. I don't know if this count as "legacy"

I have checked and none of the variables defined in the article are present.

From the article, tvdebug.log should only exist when requested, but I have it on all clients

I would suggest to contact TAC - or use E83.20...

I agree that newer is better (and I plan to upgrade as soon as we finish a few other projects), but still it feels like a bug 😞

I will ask our partner to contact TAC

Hello,

The SK is from 2006, my  guess the requirements changed, when TAC wanted to investigate issues (so the logs were left open)

As a workaround you can disable all logs by using the following environment variables

tvdebugcategories = off

tvloglimit = 1

* Remove Self-Protection to delete old files

The variable work to stop the logs. I have asked our support to contact TAC, but it may have been solved i a later version.

Thanks for the help
