NGINX CVE-2026-9256: Check Point-Managed NGINX Deployments Not Affected

Description

A recently disclosed vulnerability, CVE-2026-9256, affects the NGINX rewrite module under specific configuration and request-processing conditions.

According to public reporting, the vulnerability may allow a remote unauthenticated attacker to trigger memory corruption conditions that could potentially result in denial-of-service or remote code execution scenarios in affected environments. The issue impacts NGINX version 1.31.0. Public reporting indicates that organizations using NGINX 1.31.0 are recommended to upgrade to NGINX version 1.31.1 once available from the vendor.

Check Point Statement Regarding NGINX Vulnerability CVE-2026-9256

Following internal assessment and validation, Check Point confirms that Check Point-managed NGINX deployments are not affected by CVE-2026-9256.

The impacted ngx_http_rewrite_module functionality and vulnerable rewrite configuration pattern are not utilized within the Check Point WAF architecture or request processing flow.

All Check Point-managed NGINX deployments, including Check Point WAF SaaS, AppSec Gateway, and Unified Container configurations, are not vulnerable to this issue.

Nevertheless, updated images including the latest supported NGINX components will be released shortly as part of Check Point’s ongoing security and software maintenance process.

Customers independently managing external or customer-owned NGINX infrastructure, including deployments running NGINX version 1.31.0, are encouraged to review the vendor advisory and upgrade to NGINX version 1.31.1, in addition to applying the recommended mitigations where applicable.
