set management interface

Hi,

Sort of a dumb question or two but I have looked and can't find answers.

What does "set management interface eth0" actually do?

What is the relationship between this interface and the (interface with the) IP address the gateway object was created with?

Thanks

Colin

Not exactly sure if I understood the question, but it will set the management interface and you can see it here:

Hi

I struggled with the same question a while ago.

On a gateway, I could not find a difference if you use e.g.

set management interface Mgmt

OR

set management interface eth0

Even if the management knows the gateway via the eth0 adresses.

Mgmt interface on the gateways can be up or down as well.

This setting definitely does not affect where the firewall listens for management traffic (it accepts SIC and so on to any IP its has on any interface). It also doesn't affect how the firewall sends traffic to its management server (it always uses the routing table).

think the interface which is set as the "management interface" won't let you change certain settings like the IP address. You have to set some other interface as management first, change the IP, then set it as the management interface again.
