SMB firmware from CLI

It is obvious that we can manually install firmware versions from WebGUI, but what about CLI ?

You can display the 3 firmware version stored using show diag or as shown here: SMB Backup firmware version from CLI

Online update is possible if you run the following commands online in expert mode (sk141512):
# /opt/fw1/bin/fw check_available_firmware
# /opt/fw1/bin/fw download_firmware
# /pfrm2.0/bin/cloud_upgrade.sh

An upgrade from CLI is also possible offline (sk143274): Copy the image to the /storage directory (using WinSCP) and run (from Expert mode):
# upgrade_revert_image.sh /storage/%FILENAME% upgrade safe

And if nothing is possible anymore, even USB fails, we have - voilà - Gaia Embedded Boot Menu ! Reboot with console connected, wait until Hit 'Ctrl + C' for boot menu appears, and you see:

Welcome to Gaia Embedded Boot Menu :
1. Start in normal Mode
2. Start in debug Mode
3. Start in maintenance Mode
4. Restore to Factory Defaults (local)
5. Install/Update Image from Network

...

5. will load a firmware fw1*.img or u-boot.bin boot-loader file from a BOOTP or tftp server.

I think you can revert back to previous installed image and or revert back to factory image.

I have seen cases that an upgrade would fail and i just was back on it's previous image.

Unless of course factory image and previous image are the same version.

Not possible - using USB Media and CLI like here USB Flash Firmware Upgrade  you can do any downgrade you want, but will loose the config. As a backup will not restore on earlier firmware you would have to use e.g. Configuration transfer between different SMB model...

Hello from Germany,

is it also possible to perform an update, using tftp-server for file transfer?

Firmware version = update !

From Gaia Embedded Boot Menu you can load a firmware fw1*.img file from a tftp server.

Have you tried with: revert to previous-image in clish? Can also we done via webGUI. Not sure if this will reset config you have to test that part.

Hi Lesley. The issue is that we have two builds of R81.10.10 (current and previous installed versions) that were installed and we need to downgrade to R81.10.08. Reverting to previous image did not help.

The default image is R81.10.05, however if I understand it correctly I can only revert to the default image by factory default.

Thanks Lesley and G_W.

Our only choice ended up being factory image loosing all config. Restored the backup via copy paste for all the routing and interface configs.
