R77.30 to R80.20 upgrade RAM clarification for 4400, 4600 and 4800

Hi ,

We are in a process to upgrade our 3 cluster from R77.30 to R80.20. all are currently managed by windows R77.30 management server. Model numbers are checkpoint - 4400 [9 Standard rules and 4 NAT rules], 4600 [36 standard rules and 21 NAT rules] and 4800 [400 standard Rules and 222 NAT Rules] with 4 GB RAM  on each box. One is in VRRP and one is in cluster XL cluster. RAM upgrade is not an option here as in 3 years devices are end of support too.

Query -

1. I have read certain article where it says 4 GB RAM is fine but recommendation is 8 GB RAM. We do not use IPS, Threat detection etc features. so is this memory is sufficient for R80.20 ?

2. in practical approach where CP customer upgrade is already done to R80.20 in 4k devices with 4 GB RAM - Did there are any performance issue. Do CP receive such calls post upgrade ?

3. If can't go to R80.20 - can we go to R80.10 with above specification ?

4. Tentative date of R80.10 to be end of support ? I know in each 2 years lower CP software is going end of life so just wandering ?

Thanks

If you're just using firewall only, 4GB of RAM may be fine.
However, it depends on how loaded the systems are.

Hi ,
Thanks for the reply.
4400 and 4600 are just firewalls so hope should be fine however 4800 is our DC firewall and having couple of url base rules, 400 standard policy and 222 NAT rules. nothing more blade on it. would this be fine to go with R80.20 with 4 GB RAM ?

I'm using a 4400 appliance with 4GB in the lab for R80.20/R80.30.

It is more a CPU problem than a RAM problem. If many blades are turned on, performance problems can quickly occur.
