Hyper Threading and open server

Hi,

I'm going to install R80.40 on a cluster of two open servers, is Hyper Threading supported on open server?

Thanks in advance

HT on open servers beginning from R80.40 with kernel 3.10

(Reference : Does R80.40 support HP DL380 G10)

r80.40 is kernel 3.10 and is good for open server except that while enabling hyper threading on open server for first time, we noticed few bugs (mainly licensing related).

being VERY careful on quality we chose to list it as known limitation till one of the jumbo that fixes all bugs.

bottom line: the base works and if urgent, we can deal w issues as one off. Otherwise in very first jumbo’s will fix the few bugs and list it as supported.

I assume you mean hyper-threading, also known as SMT. (FIxing the title for you as well)

Quoting from sk93000

SMT is supported only on Check Point appliances.

Regardless, when installing on Open Servers, always make sure your machines and network cards are explicitly listed in HCL. If not, it will not be supported.

@Paolo_Francese ,

On open server HT(Hyper -Threading)/SMT will be enabled only if you upgrade from R80.30 3.10 version

if you are upgrading from different version/clean install R80.40 HT will be off.

Also, please remember that for open server upgrade to R80.40 you need to use the Blink image and not the ISO.

See details in R80.40 JHF SK

As noted, yes, this is supported on R80.40 JHF 48+.
If you're doing an upgrade/fresh install, recommended to use the Blink image.
One caveat: when HT is enabled, the core count of the appliance is increased accordingly, which will have licensing implications.

Hi @PhoneBoy,

Will there be a different license model in the future if HT is used on open server?
Or do we still need to use a full license for each HT core?

Is something planned here or will it stay as it is?

As far as I know, there are no plans to change the license model here.
