Upgrade Management HA while migrating to new server

Hello everybody,

we run R81.20 Management HA on dedicated hardware servers. This should be upgraded to R82 and migrated to new hardware.

In the Installation and Upgrade Guide, there is a chapter describing the upgrade of Management HA, but not in conjunction with migration to new hardware.

The Security Management Administration Guide (chapter migrate_server) states "To back up and restore a consistent environment, make sure to collect and restore the backups and snapshots from all servers in the High Availability environment at the same time"

So, is upgrading/migrating a HA envirinment the same as with a standalone management server? I.e.

- prepare new servers (Gaia installation, config, etc)

- migrate_server export of both servers

- shutdown old servers

- import both new servers

- install database on both

Is there any combined documentation about these steps?

Thanks for any hints

Hello

do your management servers are both installed on Open Servers?

If so, you could:

  1. prepare a new R82 server that will be the primary management.
  2. migrate the database from the R81 management, export it and import it in the new R82 management server (following the procedure in the admin guide).
  3. For the seconday management, you could create directly a fresh install R82 on the new server, than establish the SIC with the primary. Usually for the secondary management is recommended to perform a fresh install directly and not to upgrade. All the databases are syncrhonized from the primary to the secondary management.

Only migrate one machine. Fresh install the second.

Don't forget custom scripts, files and configuration need to be saved beforehand.
