Setting up a AWS VPC to Checkpoint VPN connections

I looked, admittedly not that hard but could not find anything in the forums.

We are looking to setup a connections to a Vendors AWS VPC using a cluster of 5200 running R80.10

I looked at the following KB but have a question.

How to configure IPsec VPN tunnel between Check Point Security Gateway and Amazon Web Services VPC u... 

Can I use 169.255.x.x addresses as is shown in the KB or do they need to be RFC1918 addresses?

The IP will be in whatever is downloaded from AWS in the configuration file, which I guess in this example is a 169.255 address.
