SmartEndpoint upgrade to 81.20 - server on-prem VS web on-prem?
Hi,
We are currently using on-prem Endpoint Security Management Server 80.30 (with two Endpoint Policy Servers), connecting and managing them via SmartEndpoint 80.30 console. We are planning an upgrade to version 81.20 and the thing that is confusing me is the mention of SmartEndpoint usage for management (as we are using new) but also the usage of Web Management for on-prem (with new features pushed regularly via JHF)?
I need some clarification about this. So, as stated here we can continue to use SmartEndpoint for management but we can also use the Endpoint Web Management Console as stated here and here? Or does using one approach exclude the other? Are there some differences in the licensing model?
As from the clients deployed, we manage a few thousand Endpoint Security clients, but only with "basic" features (VPN, Firewall and Application control, Compliance).
Thanks!

Starting with R81, you can use both Endpoint Client and Web Management with On-Premise EPSS / SMS. Afaik some configurations are only possible in one of the alternatives...

The approaches aren't mutually exclusive, but there are differences - see also: sk174723.
License wise it's the same in the on-prem context for either Management approach.

Sk @Chris_Atkinson gave you is definitely good reference. But, if you want an official answer, TAC case is probably good idea as well.

Hi,
@the_rock @Chris_Atkinson Thanks a lot, we will proceed with the upgrade to R81.20 in a week or two, will probably also address the local SE.
In the meantime, a similar question if you can help, regarding MacOS endpoint deployment:
With the 81.20 on-prem Endpoint Security Server will we be able to proceed with the integration with Intune or better say MDM deployment of Endpoint Security clients to MacOS - link ?
Currently they are deployed via Intune in the .DMG format, but need manual VPN profile configuration after being installed.
@the_rock pozdrav Crnoj Gori (Kanadi) 🙂

Yes, you would be, had client do that and worked fine. You may wish to get an official CP confirmation, but works, for sure.
