configure security gateway in transparent mode

Can someone please share some information on how I can configure a security Gateway to operate in transparent mode. I pretty much just want to sniff the traffic in between my LAN switch and my Dedicated Internet connection for testing . Is this possible? How can I do this? Would i be able to test my security policy in this type of configuration?

 

PS. it's a 3600 series gateway that i have .
