Maestro Madness
Hi Mates,
can anybody please guide me on how to take configuration backup of checkpoint gateway firewall through smart console..
Dear Satish Syal,
You are able to do the backup via SmartConsole , it is available since 2013 ![]()
Central Device Management
Central Device Management for R77 versions Security Gateways running on Gaia OS
Central Device Management capabilities for Gaia Gateways are integrated into the R77 versions SmartDashboard.
A new Gateways View is available under the Firewall tab. The Gateways View allows performing several actions on R77.X Gaia gateways:
Action results are displayed in the Recent Tasks pane, located under the Gateways View.
The following Gaia OS features are configurable via the gateway's object editor:
These options let you:
To back up a configuration:
The Backup window opens.
The backup location can be on the local gateway or a remote server.
If the location is a remote server, enter the:
For example: /ftproot/backup/
Or just (/) for the root directory of the server.
The status of the Backup operation shows in Recent Tasks.
When the task is complete, double-click the entry to see the file path and name of the backup file.
Note: This name is necessary to do a system restore.
To backup multiple Security Gateways, select them in the Gateways view and click Actions > Backup and Restore > Backup.
To restore a configuration:
The Restore window opens.
If you cannot find the name of the file in Recent Tasks, or did not save the file name after completing the backup process:
show backup logs. The file will be named according to this convention:
backup_<name of gateway object>_<date of backup>.tgz
If the location is a remote server, enter the:
For example: /ftproot/backup/
Or just (/) for the root directory of the server.
The status of the restore operation shows in Recent Tasks.
Satish,
Hope you are doing fine! As far as I know there's no way to perform a backup from SmartConsole (Dashboard, etc).
You perform backups via WebUI or CLI and there are three methods available: Export (Only command line), Backup and Snapshot (Actually four if we concider show configuration).
For best practicies and how to please reffer to Best Practices - Backup on Gaia OS
Regards,
I don't think you can do backup from Smart console, u can only backup system database from smart console.
One time I did the backup like this:
1. Putty to the Security Gate and run: Save configure
2. FTP to the appliance and download the save configure txt fille
3. Web login the appliance and go to maintenance-->System Backup, you can create backup from here and export down locally.
I tried to created a VM as SMS server and applied all the update and applied the Save configure file, then from the web login of new SMS, import the backup file and restore it. it successfully restored, however I encountered a lot of error and majorly because of the patches, it must be have exactly same patch applied as production system, then can be restored.
You can have a try and we can share experience
