What exactly is the field in "General Properties | Hardware Platform Type" for.
Starting with R80.30, there are a lot of new types compared to R80.20.
e.g. What is the difference when you select OpenServer or CloudGuard IaaS.
Or when you select Appliance 12000 or 15000.
Policy installation or other stuff seems to be working with any type, or?

R8x.x gateways (appliance or open server) -> cosmetic
SMB appliances -> important for policy installation
TE appliances -> important for policy and different SIC functionality
CloudGuard -> important for ClusterXL script settings, Cloud AWS Load Balancer and CloudGuard Controler
Smart-1 appliances -> ???
Maestro -> to use SP features
41K, 44K, 61K, 64K -> to use SP features
More important is the version for policy compilation. More read here: R80.x - Policy Installation Flowchart
This field let you choose the hardware platform - CP appliances, OpenServer, Cloud Solutions or virtual appliances. Should be rather clear, does it not ?
Sorry if my question was not clear enough.
What is the technical difference between the settings. Or is it just a cosmetic thing.
Do cloudguard lisences do have dependencies on these settings ? Or the contract / support model?

Maybe - but for SMBs (11x0, 14x0) policy install will fail when wrong hardware is selected ! Also, appliance types are checked as the SW version must be correct (eg 26000 needs R80.30 at least). Most important is the SW version (yes, compatibility folders ;-).
For R77.30 OpenServer, choosing 12000 appliances works and policy installs successfull.
While we are on the topic, I find the following much more interesting in R81.

Why do we still find settings here that have been out of support for years.
From a policy compilation standpoint, I don’t think IPSO or Solaris matters.
That said, it’s a good point.

Not sure if this is the correct area to ask - but do we know when Checkpoint is going to update their hardware architecture to included dedicated chips for https inspection in order to realistic use this blade on lower end models (by this I mean 6200 appliances and above).
Most other vendors are now doing this.
