Rugged appliance with full Gaia code?

Hello CheckMates;

Anyone know if Check Point is planning on adding to the list of rugged appliances?

The 1200R I believe is embedded Gaia ?

All Quantum Spark SMB line appliances are running embedded Gaia and not "full Gaia" code.

Hi Pat,

I believe that the 1200R is running Gaia embedded due to the CPU that is present in the device. As the same is for the SMB 1400 appliances.

With that being said, I would also be interested to know if there will be any additions to the rugged range for SCADA/ICS deployments.

Regards

Mark

What feature(s) do you feel are missing from Embedded Gaia?

Couple of things that stand out are the lack of support for bonding and geo protection.  but the overall experience at the command line differences in code make any troubleshooting different and difficult.

Would be nice to have the same functionality with hardened devices.

you can install full GAIA on rugged device like the Siemens RuggedCom

Really ?  I never knew that.  It will allow features like Geo protect and bonding of interfaces.  Thought the embedded Gaia had limited hardware ?

Following up on this...

There are some other limitations that make full Gaia on a rugged device attractive, such as API support.

Has anyone tried building a full Gaia gateway on ruggedized hardware (Lanner or some of the random stuff you see on Amazon, for example)? Either on the bare metal or on top of a hypervisor (ESXi preferred) would work for my purposes.

Thanks!

ESXi should work, for install on OpenServer HW see https://www.checkpoint.com/support-services/hcl/.

Thanks!

The HCL isn't much help in this case; the only ruggedized system I spotted in a quick glance was the Kobalt box, and it's not easily available for personal projects. Support isn't an issue, since it's not going to be used by a customer.

So use ESXi.

As I recall, there were a couple of ruggedized Open Servers we supported a decade or so ago.
This was done through an RFE via Solution Center.
My guess is these appliances are not capable of running current releases, though.

In any case, you know the drill about using hardware not on the HCL 🙂
Using ESXi on that hardware would eliminate that, of course.
