Tunnel Tracking

Hi There,

Anyone has used the VPN tunnel track option in tunnel management.

Does it gives alert for the tunnel up/down. we are having an issue , where the tunnel goes down number of times, but we want to track when the tunnel went down , went up. Does this feature is helpful.

best bet would be a SNMP monitoring system, there are plenty of such solutions on the market ie. PRTG?Mutiny? etc.
Also bear in mind that tunnel up/down is indeed logged but not something you can see in a "Tracker" or "SmartLog" - rather than that you can see that on Gateway's /var/log files respectively.

I'd anyway recommend to use SNMP monitoring as it gives you more granular and detailed informations all-in-one place for every system/network specified probes.

Jerry,

SNMP in this case is only useful when you can monitor through the tunnel. I do not know of any way to see if the tunnel is really up/down from a gateway perspective, even if you do there is no guarantee that it really is up and allowing traffic.

You can monitor the state via SmartviewMonitor (still available on R80.xx) But you have to actively monitor.TunnelMonitoring.PNG

Eabling the tracking option for a permanent tunnel is too a possibility but not the best. Maybee you change the tracking option from log to sending mail or snmp trap.
