Endpoint Security VPN build 986000724 is already installed on this computer.

Jump to solution

Downloaded link from my institution's download page and obtained Endpoint_Security_VPN.dmg on my Mac desktop running OS Mojave 10.14.3. I believe this is version 80.89 but can't be sure. My instructions said to run the uninstaller to remove the old version. This I did several times. Then I tried installing and the system said version 986000724 is already installed on this machine, file one, Screen Shot 2019-03-13 at 10.29.42 PM.png. I looked everywhere on my Mac, even looking at invisible files (I have administrator access), and cannot find any files that include Checkpoint or Endpoint in any directory. I found the toolbar still had the icon on it, and when I doubleclicked to launch it, it got a ? and so I figured it was gone, and I dragged it off the toolbar to vanish it. Even after multiple reboots and multiple downloading at the download page, I still cannot uninstall anything, and now cannot install the new version. My IT department does not support Macs, and cannot help me further. Checkpoint cannot help me either because they say I do not have a support contract. Someone please help me.

I solved this for my case. When I would run the uninstaller from the installer or the command
"sudo /Library/Application Support/Checkpoint/Endpoint Security/uninstall.sh" I would get a "no such file or directory exists" message.

So I manually created the above file path. Got a colleague who also uses checkpoint to provided me with the uninstall scrip file, and dropped this file in its correct folder.

Ran the uninstaller from the installer again, and then I was able to install it successfully. I guess the only way to uninstall this software is with the uninstaller otherwise rogue invisible files will be left somewhere and can't be removed.

Hi all,

It's been a wild ride, but I figured that this is what you want to run (as root, or sudo):

pkgutil --forget com.checkpoint.pkg.epc

This is the part where the installer checks if the software is already installed or not.
Finally, you still want to delete any remaining file before reinstalling:

rm /Library/LaunchAgents/com.checkpoint.*
rm /usr/local/lib/libTrAPI.dylib
rm -rf "/Library/Application Support/Checkpoint"
rm /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.checkpoint.*

Hope that helps.

Which uninstaller did you run: The one that came with the version you downloaded or the one you used previously?
Possible this thread may help: https://community.checkpoint.com/t5/Remote-Access-Solutions/i-am-unable-to-Reinstall-the-check-point...

Hi Phone Boy. I used the uninstaller that came with the new package.

You should use the uninstaller script that came with the client you originally installed.
See if this works:

sudo "/Library/Application Support/Checkpoint/Endpoint Security/uninstall.sh"

Actually that is the terminal command that I did try, also, and it did not do anything different. I still cannot install as the installer thinks I still have the version installed. I could not find any invisible files that seemed to go with this software.

(Second reply). Hi again. I even tried using the sudo command in Terminal, but that didn't help. Your link wasn't much help as it required a support contract to go to the how to uninstall, and I don't have that.

The sudo command was something I pulled from that SK.

As this issue has come up before, I'll see if I can get someone from R&D to weigh in.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am just beside myself! My IT department went to the trouble of getting us Mac users the ability to connect remotely, but now they refuse to support us, and I'm just a user, so I don't have any other resources. I hope you can suggest some things for me to try. My IT department suggested I go back to my TimeMachine and reload a backup, but if I did that I would lose hundreds of photos and music and other things I use my personal computer for (it's been weeks and weeks that I've been going back and forth with them). Sorry so long. Take care and thank you again.

Can't promise we'll find a solution here, but it can't hurt to ask.

Using a personal device for work has its pitfalls, particularly if there is no clear separation between "personal" data/applications and "corporate" data/applications.
Endpoint Security VPN has a few features on it that, if your IT department enabled them, might impact your ability to use your personal computer in a manner that you desire (for example, using USB drives or connecting to your Mac from a different computer).
Mobile Device Management on your personal device could mean that your personal data gets wiped if you leave your current employer.
Mixing corporate and personal data on mobile devices can be accomplished safely thru containerized corporate apps.
This can be done on mobile devices, but I haven't seen similar solutions on PCs or Macs.

Thanks. Yes, I realize there are dangers. But I don't think my institution has enabled any of those weird restrictions. They just provide us with Endpoint Security VPN download, then we install from the App store the latest MS Remote desktop app. That way we can access our files at work using their apps and the file server trees, but to date I don't think I've been able to actually copy over any files to my personal computer at home without a USB drive, so it seems they've created a pretty secure exchange. Just wish they could help me with this issue. Thanks.

I'm having the exact same issue, and I've tried all the above suggestions to no avail. I hope this gets resolved soon.

Phone Boy,

Has there been any progress on this issue? I see that Ivory also has this issue, so we are both hoping you have found a solution for us. I still cannot uninstall, nor re-install Endpoint_Security_VPN.

Thank you,

Shawn

Ivory is a "rank" not the user 😁
But yes, I see others have had the issue.
We did not see any issues in QA with this.
Still checking what can be done.
It would be really helpful if you could convince your IT folks to open a case with our TAC on this, which they should be able to do (I checked).

Thanks, hopefully that will help you @westaway.
R&D told me they would need to see a support ticket to investigate the issue further.

Hello PhoneBoy and AKuhn,

Unless I am misunderstanding the directions in the proposed solution, this did not work for me. I tried to create a path as AKuhn described. But when I ran the uninstaller to begin with, my path was different, and it said Endpoint Connect instead of Endpoint Security. My uninstaller that came with my package was also called Uninstaller, not uninstall.sh. I tried several variations of this, but it still says no such file path or directory. When you said you got a colleague who also uses checkpoint to provide you with the uninstall scrip file, what exactly was that? Was it a textual command script? Because I have the uninstaller that came with my install package. I can copy it to any directory, but I don't know if the file extension is .sh or something else, and like I said, it is named differently.

PhoneBoy recommended I ask my IT department to start a ticket, but they refuse to do so, even though they probably have the license to do so. I can't force them to do this. So sorry that this didn't work for me. Any clues, suggestions, questions, anything, would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Shawn

P.S. My IT department suggested I reinstall my system and all my files from a Time Machine backup to go back to the version that was working for me. I can't do this, because I would lose all the personal files I've created or downloaded since I began troubleshooting this issue. I can't believe they even suggested that. :-(((
