Harmony Email Collaboration - Excel attachments converted to .txt after sending via

Hey Community,

We are experiencing a situation where Excel files (.xls) sent through Harmony Email & Collaboration arrive at the destination as .xls.txt, with the content removed.

Some context:

  • The attachment is generated normally from Excel (Office 2010/2016).

  • The email is sent internally and externally.

  • Other file types are delivered without modification.

  • We are using Harmony Email & Collaboration with Threat Extraction / CDR enabled.

Our questions:

  1. Is this expected behavior of Threat Extraction / Content Disarm & Reconstruction?

  2. Is there a way to preserve Excel content for internal users without disabling security policies?

  3. Are there best practices or recommended configurations to avoid this issue while maintaining protection?

Any guidance, official documentation, or practical workaround would be appreciated.

Are you using the clean or convert option?

Also to clarify who is receiving the modified attachment internal or external recipients?
