I read on this article that on the 1430 SMB appliance you should upgrade from R77.20.31 > R77.20.81 > R77.20.87 as apparently described in the sk120512 article.

We have version R77.20.80 and want to upgrade to R77.20.87! Do we need to upgrade first to R77.20.81 and then to R77.20.87 or can we go directly from R77.20.80 to R77.20.87

Based on the sk, it would appear so...from R77.20.81 to R77.20.87, but maybe someone else can confirm.

There is another sk13274, which describes manual upgrade from R77.20.80 to higher versions might fail during upload of the firmware image from WEBUI.

But it doesn't seem to fail 100%... where I just did this on a 1430 centrally managed appliance just yesterday from R77.20.80 Build 2524 to R77.20.87 Build 3083 which worked fine. But if you want to stay on the safe side, you may want to assume the 2 steps, 1: upgrade to R77.20.81 then to latest R77.20.87.

The issue in that SK refers to upgrading very old SMB gateways where a multi-step upgrade is required to ensure a smooth upgrade given that there were numerous schema changes along the way.
I don’t believe upgrading through R77.20.81 is required if you’re already on R77.20.80.
