I imagine some providers may bill you per hour connected or similar.
This would allow you to only be connected when necessary to minimize those costs.

Hi,

What is the advantage (or disadvantages) of Connect on Demand when running 2 Check Point Security Appliances 1450 in High Availability mode.

With "Connect on Demand" i mean the the advanced option when we're going to run both appliances connected to a PPPoE ISP connection.

There's not much information about it.

[Configuring the internet connection]

For PPPoE

IP Address Assignment (PPPoE IPv4 only) - In Local tunnel IP address, select if the IP address is obtained automatically or manually configured. If manually configured, enter the IP address.

Service Provider Settings - In Service, enter a service name (optional) and select the Authentication method.

Connect on demand - Select the Connect on demand checkbox if necessary. This is relevant only when you are in high availability mode.

Regards,

Ray

High availablity here means ISP Redundancy HA - the fallback ISP is only used if the main ISP ceases to work. This does not concern HA clustering as you plan it.

See the following 1550 screenshot (one of the checkmarks should be cleared to make this work!):
