I want to know how to check the serial number in the appliance CLI and GUI.

Appliance is 1430.

That version is R77.20.70.

The MAC is the Serial Number.

From CLI:

fw_printenv hw_mac_addr

Actually, if you check the box you'll see that the serial number is a different number, such as NX1632Bxxxxxx. I think there is no command to retrieve it.

Anyway, the MAC address is what he will need in most occasions.

The appliances serial number is never used for anything - how to see it you can see in sk125673: How to check SMBappliances' serialnumber? :

The only way to check the Serial number of your SMB / Branch / Ruggedized appliance is by looking behind the "Chassis".

The alternative method is to check for serial number in Check Point UserCenter - but here the MAC is shown as a CK:

A Clish "show diag" also shows the HW MAC in CLI, but together with a lot of further information.
