The SMB series has a helpful boot menu shown on console:

DRAM Total size 256MB 16bit width

This will show:

Welcome to Gaia Embedded Boot Menu :

1. Start in normal Mode

2. Start in debug Mode

3. Start in maintenance Mode

4. Restore to Factory Defaults (local)

5. Install/Update Image from Network

6. Restart Boot-Loader

7. Run Hardware diagnostics

8. Upload preset configuration file

Please enter your selection (press ENTER to finish) :

2. is used to debug hangs on the unit (see sk112858)

3. is good for commands like fsck

4. will come very handy if the factory default button or USB firmware update do not work

5. will load a firmware fw1*.img or u-boot.bin boot-loader file from a BOOTP or tftp server

6. will restart the boot loader

7. is for future use and without functionality – use CLI show diag instead

8. will contact a tftp server and try to load a saved config *.cfg or a dsl*.img
