Reviewing top output on gateways running UPPAK is ineffective, you will need to review cpview and HCP outputs to understand further if there is a problem.

Hi all,

I notice on these two particular HA Pair of VSX Firewalls, there is a process running 'usim_x86'

It is using 600+% of CPU and seems to have been running for a long time, I believe the entire uptime. (it seemed to be more initially, which is impossible, but apparently something with the multithreading can make the CPU time grow faster than real time)

Uptime:

10:34:11 up 63 days, 23:21, 1 user, load average: 13.42, 12.35, 12.69

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
27135 admin 20 0 0.130t 2.308g 667156 S 618.3 1.8 485113:15 usim_x86
1149 admin 0 -20 8589028 3.050g 727888 S 15.3 2.4 4051:54 fwk2_dev_0
1302 admin 0 -20 9384312 3.804g 962408 S 8.6 3.0 17459:34 fwk4_dev_0
1308 admin 0 -20 9366456 3.788g 884176 S 1.7 3.0 1314:19 fwk3_dev_0

It seems to be something to do with Threat Prevention features I think? But checking my other firewalls which are the exact same model and version I do not see this process.

Do you guys have any idea if this is normal? It does not seem ideal to me to be running a process continuously for that long if its using that much CPU.

Thanks

Firewalls are R82 JHF Take: 39

Check Point 9700

Thank you, I checked with cpview as per the SK and it shows here very low CPU usage. Good to know that we shouldn't rely on 'top'
