Unable to init MCE device

Hello everyone.

I have a problem with a newly created R82. It runs under VMware 7.0.3.

I am irregularly getting the error:

“Unable to init MCE device (rc: -5)”

Then the cp reboots. in log: dmesg | grep -i mce
there is no entry to be found.

a: “lsmod | grep mce” shows no module. “modprobe mce” also remains empty.

i have now found the hint to add the following to the vm (.vmx):

monitor_control.disable_mce = “TRUE”

is that plausible? what do you think?

As a baseline are you using a Redhat 8 VM type per sk104848 or something else?

Hi Jeff,

Did adding monitor_control.disable_mce = “TRUE” to the .vmx file fix this issue? I am experiencing this same issue.

Hey Karen,

Im fairly positive that does work, because TAC also suggested it to customer few months ago.

Hi Andy,

Unfortunately, that didn't fix our issue. TAC stated this was a known issue and is currently being looked at and suggested in the meantime to reconfigure the firewall to user space mode to avoid the constant reboots; however, we opted to just roll back to R81.20 instead.
