IPS Update through SMS or Gateway

IPS update happens through SMS , Smart Console or Security Gateway ? I know there is an option of SMS and SmartConsole what will happen by default if I don't click any of those manually?

I opened a SmartConsole in demo mode. I see here the default is "The gateway automatically..."
