Dear,

We will replace a Model 5800 Cluster with the Model 5900.

I am defining the best strategy to change the cluster without downtime.

I thought in the following order, I would like to validate if it is possible or a better suggestion.

BEFORE THE WINDOW
1- Save Configuration GW1 and GW2 of the current 5800 cluster.
2- Import the Save Configuration of GW1 and GW2 from the 5800 model into the 5900 cluster

In the maintenance window
1- Turn off the GW2 (stand-by) 5800
2- Connect the GW2 5900 instead of the 5800
3- Take the SIC
4- Install Policy
5- Switch the cluster to make the GW2 5900 Active
6- Validate communications

One of the doubts I had is whether the Cluster will be established because they are different models, and have a different number of colors.

The 5800 has a Xeon E3-1285L v4 with four cores, the 5900 has a Xeon E5-2620 v4 with eight cores. Due to the different core counts, they will not synchronize by default. Without sync, you will lose ongoing connections when you fail over from the old member to the new one.

You could adjust CoreXL on the 5900 to match the settings on the 5800. This would leave an enormous amount of performance on the table, but should enable them to sync.

Separately, the 5900 goes end-of-life in less than two years. I wouldn't go through all this hassle just to do it again that soon.
