Yes, 100% you would lose access @tommyV , because it would be brand new install from scratch, so it would wipe out all the settings once rebooted. Just curious, what sort of appliance is it? If you think about it, lets take most simple example, it would be like factory resetting say basic Linksys wireless router people use at home, it would wipe out all the settings and you would have to configure it from scratch.

You can verify if it qualifies for the upgrade below:

Happy to do remote and we can check it together.

Cheers mate.

Ok everyone I am somewhat new at checkpoint upgrading process. My question is for management as well as gateways.

When I downloaded r81.20 it does not give me an option to upgrade it says fresh install is only option. My question is these devices are remote and I do not have any kind of Lightsout configured to access the devices. If I do fresh install will I lose contectivity to the devices and if so will a trip be needed to go physically connect with usb/laptop to finish install. Please help.

CPUSE is the way to achieve this: R81 Gaia Administration Guide - CPUSE - Software Updates

sk92449: Check Point Upgrade Service Engine (CPUSE) - Gaia Deployment Agent

Gateway will reboot after update, but GAiA WebGUI will be available again when it is up !

Let's take a step back. What specifically are you looking at which says "fresh install"?

Please describe your topology. Do you have a management server separate from the firewall(s)?

Guys made a good point. I would also add, make sure you have latest CPUSE and also verify what packages are there. Just an example below from my R81.20 lab.

Andy
