we can not log onto site or even see the reason why it is not working?

I was getting 504 errors earlier so something serious clearly happened to knock out checkpoint.com

This happened last year, but that time was more severe.

It's the downside of putting everything in the cloud, as many companies and customers are learning

The affected infra was not in the cloud. It was an internal maintenance issue, sometimes things go wrong, even with the best of us.

Sure in the context that cloud = someone else's computer but not the typical public cloud (e.g. AWS/Azure/GCP) in this case as the intent would suggest.
