HELLO,

To manually update the IPS protections:

Connect to the Global Domain with SmartConsole.
Click Security Policies > Threat Prevention.
In the Related Tools section, click Updates.
In the IPS section, click Update Now.
Connect to the Multi-Domain Server with SmartConsole.
Reassign the global configuration.

Question : to update ips does it requires Internet on the device where smartconsole IS installed OR does it requires Internet On the Security Management Server?

Management Server.
Note that R80.20+ gateways can update their IPS signatures automatically (if configured and have Internet access).

SmartConsole also allows you to initiate the update and select if it will be run using SmartConsole or from the Security Management Server:

What is the difference between Downloading using SmartConsole or Management Server?

There is no difference in the content, its the same IPS package.

Download using SmartCosnole is there to help when the Security Management Server / Security Gateway do not have connectivity to the Internet.
