API - Verify if rule already exists

I have everything working to be able to automate creating rules, but I am not sure how to verify if the rule already exists. Does anybody have some documentation or example on how to verify if rules already exist with the API?

Thanks! I ended up solving my problem by doing a policy verification, checking the status of the verification task ID, then if it fails, remove the rules that were added and publish.
