Is there a way for me to limit specific API calls and also limit updating of specific objects to a permission profile?

API calls follow the permission profile of the user in question.
Which means: if the permission profile allows the action via SmartConsole, it allows it via the API.
You can’t limit editing of specific objects via SmartConsole, so you can’t do it via API.
