In smartconsole R80.20, if you use the top search bar to search policy and search for an IP address, it will find all matches where the Ip matches a network and mask, however it will not find the rules where there is a named object with that IP.

For example, create an object called google with 8.8.8.8 andput it in a few rules. In search bar search for "google" it will find all occurrences of host object google and networks that match 8.8.8.8. If you search for 8.8.8.8 it will find only occurrences of where you match a network but not where object 'google' has been used.

is this expected behaviour? bug?

could you please try remove the 8.8.8.8 from the object name and just try it with "google_host"?

Works as well in R80.20 for me. Perhaps try updating your SmartConsole GUI client software?

Not sure why it fails for you, but I just created host with bogus IP 10.1.2.3 and gave it a name homer_simpson_host and when publish and policy installed, I did a search for 10.1.2.3 and the actual name lit up in few rules I put it in. Maybe someone from R&D can comment or you can try download newest smart console version and test. I did this on R80.40 mgmt server.

So I just updated to the latest smartconsole but it has the same behaviour

I can get it working if I let the search bar auto fill, so for example I type the IP address then it suggests matches, if I select the match it finds all the objects correctly, if I enter the IP address and just hit enter it does not match the objects. Not sure if that is the same behaviour you guys are seeing aswell?
