Character encoding bug in R81.20 SmartConsole Build 665 prevents login

Hi,

I've noticed a problem in SmartConsole that prevents login to SmartCenter if the user description contains non-English characters like the Norwegian "Æ", "Ø", "Å".

The user receives an error message similar to"Invalid character in the given encoding. Line 1, position 15105." and SmartConsole quits. If I check the session in another SmartConsole, the user is logged in.

I have confirmed that removing the offending characters will solve the problem.

The issue started with the latest build 665, as far as we have noticed.

I hoped character encoding bugs were a thing of the past.

You are 100% right. I actually replicated this in my lab as well. I would open TAC case and ask about it. But, maybe someone here can confirm it is expected.

I'm not going to open a TAC case for this issue. It is easy to replicate and I hope CP Product Managers read this forum.

Couldn't find any search results for this error message and I hope it will help others.

There is already known issue with non-english character, but in username (not in comment):

After an upgrade to R81.20 Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator Take 96 and higher, users with special characters in the username cannot login to Gaia Portal
