Had a fan failure on a 3200 and it did not shutdown. What really bugged me is, that the appliance status stayed green in the Smart Dashboard.

So, what will happen if god forbid the one and only fan on a 3600 appliance fails ? Will it auto-shutdown to prevent overheating or go in CPU low consumption mode or what ?

I can't speak to that specific model, but when I've seen a CPU fan fail on other appliances the CPU severely downclocks itself to keep from overheating. This causes everything to be unbearably slow including just typing characters in an SSH session. The first time I encountered this it took me quite awhile to figure out what was wrong (it was stumping TAC as well) which is why I mentioned it in my book.

Yeah, I was going exactly through your book when I realized I am not sure how will 3600 handle such situation. If it is appliance specific at all.

I find it a small mystery what and when is monitored in Smart Console. It would be nice if it is configurable somehow but unfortunately it is not. For that I rely on my Zabbix server. It even shows nice graph on fan speed history. 😀
