Apple MacOS Rosetta 2 EOL - Identity Agent for Apple Silicon

Hello folks,

as we know, Apple will discontinue Rosetta 2 with MacOS 28 in 2027 which means, that any software which is still not ported to Apple Silicon after all these years will finally stop working:

https://developer.apple.com/documentation/apple-silicon/about-the-rosetta-translation-environment/

The last update to Check Point Identy Agent was in 2022 and added support for working in a Rosetta 2 environment while still staying a Intel binary.

https://support.checkpoint.com/results/sk/sk134312

Can we expect that Check Point will provide an Apple Silicon version of Identity Agent for MacOS 28? Or will Check Point just declare this software as End of Life?

We did not get updates in the last four years, never got a feature parity with the Windows version, the release notes formal talk about support for MacOS only up to version 14 (while it works on 26) and Identity Agents were never listed in CP support life cycle policy, so I do not know what we can expect here:

https://www.checkpoint.com/support-services/support-life-cycle-policy/

Yes, the Mac version is definitely being neglected. I’d suggest opening a support ticket and making an official enquiry. Or, if you’re in direct contact with Checkpoint Sales or PS, you could raise the issue with them.

Hi Tobias,

im also worried about this. I hope Checkpoint will fix this in the future. Im responding to this thread to keep it alive and relevant in the hope that someone from Checkpoint will notice.

Best,

francis

We will share further updates, including release timelines, as our testing and qualification process progresses.

Thank you,
Liel

Thank you for the commitment to an Apple silicon version of the Identity Agent.

However, the "ahead of Apple's deprecation deadline" is vague and may not be soon enough for a reason I'll explain.

As reported by MacRumors, with more details available in Apple's beta programs, upgrading to this fall's release, macOS Golden Gate 27, will uninstall the Rosetta 2 translation layer, and require users or enterprises to reinstall it, if they require it. As Check Point Identity Agent registers to launch at login, this will generate the Rosetta install prompt immediately after upgrade - a poor experience for customers.

Therefore, please ship an Apple silicon-native version of Identity Agent this summer, so we can prepare our fleets for macOS 27. Apple only allows to enterprises to delay the installation of major OSes for 90 days after release.

Thank you

And now we are in that timeframe, @Fraser_Hess talked about:

MacOS 27 is out and Apple writes in the official release notes:

If Rosetta was previously installed, it will not be automatically restored upon upgrading to macOS 27.

Check Point has still not released a Apple Silcon version of Identity Agent for MacOS, so users get the Rosetta Install Prompt with first MacOS 27 boot.
